Solar Works for Minnesota

Too much of our energy comes from dirty sources that harm our environment. The Minnesota state Legislature appears to have settled on its agenda: Continue sending $20 billion of Minnesotans’ money out of state every year to buy dirty energy. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We have great solar potential right here in Minnesota.

Program

Save the Boundary Waters

A new and dangerous type of mining is being proposed near the Boundary Waters. Sulfide mining has never been done in Minnesota, often creates acid mine drainage, and leaks sulfuric acid and heavy metal contaminants into nearby waters. We need to protect the Boundary Waters from this toxic threat.

Program

Protect the 10,000 Lakes

Short-sighted legal decisions have left more than half of Minnesota’s streams and hundreds of acres of wetlands vulnerable to pollution and development. Now, polluters’ allies in Congress—including Minnesota’s Rep. Michele Bachmann—are trying to block the EPA from restoring vital safeguards. To protect Minnesota’s lakes, we need to show massive public support for clean water.

Drive Electric Minnesota

The environmental costs of our oil dependence are out of control — from the accidents and spills, to smog, to climate change. It's time to set this country on a path to getting off oil for good. Drive Electric Minnesota is a partnership of local and state governments, Xcel Energy, private businesses and non-profit groups. We are excited about the benefits electric vehicles can provide to reduce our dependence on dirty imported energy and decrease transportation pollution in the coming years.

Program

Clean Air, Healthy Families

New EPA clean air standards will cut mercury pollution by 90% and save 46,000 lives each year. The coal industry and their friends in Congress are trying to roll back these standards, but we’re urging Congress to let EPA do its job and move forward with its commonsense plan to protect public health.
